This fall’s television season already looks like the season of “Simpsons” crossovers.

The season premiere of “Family Guy” on September 28 is a special crossover episode with “The Simpsons.” And fans of “Simpsons” creator, Matt Groening, are eager for the November 9 Simpsons/Futurama crossover episode titled “Simpsorama.”

But producers are treating fans to yet another crossover episode this season, one that features a family of ghosts “crossing over.”

This year’s annual “Treehouse of Horror” Halloween episode will feature a segment in which the Simpsons encounter ghosts of their former selves. In this parody of the 2001 film “The Others,” the Simpson family is haunted by another family living in their house. This ghostly family is none other than the Simpsons as they first appeared in 1987 on the "Tracey Ullman Show."

Although these coarse historic versions of the family have appeared on the show before, Entertainment Weekly explains that this episode “will feature the most elaborate and lengthy revival, one in which Simpsons cast members Dan Castellaneta (Homer), Nancy Cartwright (Bart), Yeardley Smith (Lisa), and Julie Kavner (Marge) summon their original voices for the characters so the early-era Simpsons and modern-day Simpsons can mix it up.”

“Simpsons” fans will likely enjoy this unique twist on the crossover. During a season of crossovers, it almost seems fitting for a show that has been on the air for so long to crossover with itself. Well-played, Simpsons.

The 26th season of “The Simpsons” begins September 14 on FOX.
