Smartwatches have been the subject of various modifications recently, with one of the most recent ones using the Android Wear-powered LG G Watch. YouTuber Dave Bennett was able to launch first-person shooter Counter-Strike on the smartwatch, which despite the near unplayability of the game due to the wearable device's small screen, is still an impressive feat.

The newest modification to smartwatches involves Apple's version, the Apple Watch, and it could even be more impressive than the Counter-Strike LG G Watch.

Developer Nick Lee, through a post on Medium, revealed that he was able to get obsolete Microsoft operating system Windows 95 on the Apple Watch.

Lee noted that the Apple Watch feature a 520 MHz processor, 512 MB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage, which compared to the PCs in the 1990's has a processor that is 25 times faster. In addition, 512 MB was the internal storage of computers then, not their RAM.

"As a result, I was feeling confident that the Apple Watch had the ability to run one of the most revered desktop operating systems Redmond has ever produced," Lee wrote.

Lee noted that he was already previously able to have the Apple Watch run a different operating system than its watchOS, as he was able to install Mac OS 7.5.5 into the wearable device.

To get Windows 95 into the Apple Watch, Lee patched some files within a WatchKit app to load his own application code instead of Apple's. The app was fitted with a disk image of Windows 95, with the Apple Watch booting up the operating system once the entire procedure was finished.

It takes about an hour to boot Windows 95 on the Apple Watch, but the operating system is fully functional. In a video that Lee uploaded, it can be seen that he accesses the start menu of the operating system and loads a program.

Lee had to attach a motor on the Apple Watch's crown to prevent the screen of the device from turning off though.
