Moto X (2016) recently showed its face again, and this time it was in the company of the Droid Turbo 3 handset and a third mysterious smartphone.

Moto X (2016)

Previous leaks hinted that Motorola is embracing the full-metal jacket design of its rivals, and the last leaked images are backing the information. The images show the flagship handset as well as a Verizon-branded Droid and both sport metallic chassis. A special note goes to the protruding glass-enclosed camera module, which is reminiscent of the Lumia 950 XL's figure.

The 2016 model introduces a physical home button, which has a big chance of working as a fingerprint scanner as well. There is a drawback to embedding a home button, though, as the formerly front-facing speakers are now located on the rear of the device. Speaking of the handset's backside, Motorola's logo was repositioned there, under the main camera.

It should be noted that the Moto X (2016) has its buttons placed on the right side of the device.

Droid Turbo 3

Images also depict a second device, which seems to be the successor of the Verizon DROID Turbo 2. Whether the device will prove to be the Droid Turbo 3 or the company will staple another name to it remains to be seen.

What we do know is that it carries a Verizon logo on the front, back-sided speakers and a home button with a different shape than the one on the Moto X. The rear of the handset features the visually unique marks of a Moto Maker customization. There is a chance the smartphone will pack the ShatterShield display, thus explaining why the fingerprint reader comes in another shape when compared with Moto X's.

Moto X Unknown Variant

At first glance, the gadget bears an uncanny resemblance to the Moto X. Reliable insider Evan Blass, however, stands by the fact that the handset is a completely new model, and more details are in tow.

Where the mysterious smartphone is clearly different is in its camera sensor, which protrudes heavily on the back of the device.

It might be that the device is actually a Moto X Play 2 or even a Moto X Pro. Motorola hinted that the Moto G4 will get a Pro variant, so maybe the Moto X is preparing for the same treatment.

Looking under the hood of the 2016 model of Moto X, the OEM wants to go toe-to-toe with its rivals. This means that customers will get 4 GB of RAM and processing power from the acclaimed Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 CPU, among other goodies.

The metallic finish of the device suggests that Motorola aims to take on a more premium niche of the market, and the powerful specs will definitely help with that. The company used to be famed for value-for-buck devices.

The strategy fits with Lenovo's previous statements. The Chinese manufacturer pointed out that it will target the Motorola-branded phones to the high-end of the mobile market, relying the Lenovo devices in the affordable range.

A number of insiders familiar with the matter suggest that Moto X (2016) will land on June 9. Until then, we promise to keep you posted on the leaks that will surface.
