Battleborn is one of the hottest games making the headlines this year, and for the uninitiated, it's a shooter with bits of MOBA components here and there. This goes without saying, but it's one heck of a game.

Now, it's fairly fresh in the scene, so there's still a pretty good chance to catch up to the competition. It won't be that easy, though, but here's a beginner's guide of sorts to get on a good start.

Battleborn Tips And Tricks

Go Through The Campaign Before Jumping Into The Online Fray

While the Story Mode doesn't exactly have the most thrilling gameplay for some, it's absolutely beneficial to everyone. Aside from getting in on the action minus the severe stress that multiplayer brings, it yields a ton of gears and experience points to level up faster and even unlocks more usable heroes, including Boldur, Caldarius, ISIC and Mellka.

In other words, it's better to join Versus modes with a lot of gears and a wider selection of characters to choose from.

Be Patient, Watch The Tutorials

The tutorial might be boring for certain players, but there's a good chance they're missing out on several tidbits of info that could lead them to victory. To put it simply, being prepared for what's to come is better than going in recklessly and shouting, "Leeroy Jenkins!" — or something like that.

Use Up Shards Wisely

It's no mystery that there are small Shards sprinkled around the map and a couple of large Shards spawning in specific locations of the map, but how to use them effectively may have flown over a couple of players' heads.

As a little refresher, they can be used to enlist the aid of Super Minions or to build and upgrade emplacements. The trick here is not to hoard those Shards and make sure to spend them on turrets, and another strategy here is to save up just enough of them along with allies and send out Super Minions all at the same time as a coup de grace.

Keep Your Eyes On The Prize: Focus On The Objective

Sure, it's fun to go around aiming to get the highest number of kills in the game, but that can be washed down by a generous dose of defeat or numerous encounters with the Mission Failure screen in Incursion. Here's a tip for you, slick: keep the pressure going, avoid wasting time and don't leave minions behind. They have feelings too.

Respawn Then Regroup

Whenever the Grim Reaper temporarily makes his embrace, don't just rush out to the battlefield alone after only-God-knows-what gives the kiss of life. This point kind of stems from the "keep your eyes on the prize" deal, and that is to focus not on kills but on the objectives of the team.

Do Your Homework: Read Up On The Heroes

Repeating what the developers said, take some time to research the heroes and their respective Helix Trees and abilities. For the textbooks to pass this test, Gearbox has them all up for free at the Battleborn website.

Know Your Role

The next step after reading up on the heroes is to figure out the gameplay style that fits like a glove. There are three types: Attacker, Support or Defender. In the set of seven starter heroes, the Attackers consist of Marquis, Orendi, Oscar Mike, Rath and Thorn, the Support Miko and the Defender Montana. They should be more than enough to help players find their true calling.

Tussle With Artificial Intelligence - Bots!

It's a known fact that private games against a team of AI doesn't increase Commander Rank, so why take on this type of enemy again and again? Well, it still gives experience points that leads to leveling up heroes that continues to Helix Mutations for Augmentations that advances on to ... you get the picture.

Not only that, but it can also get players more familiar with how things usually go against Battleborn characters instead of the ordinary foes in Story Mode.

Communicate With The Team, They Have Ears

Moving in sync with the rest of the team works wonders not only in Battleborn but in virtually any multiplayer game. Warning an ally about a threat or letting everyone know what plan A is can go a long way. If that's not possible, listening is the next best thing.

Don't Be A Hoarder, Sell Worthless Gears

This should be pretty obvious already, but in case it's not, sell useless gears for some extra Credit to spend on new Packs.

The Bottom Line

Like with most team-based games, teamwork is without a doubt essential. To boil things down, just do some research, practice with bots, watch the tutorials, spend some time in Story Mode and play nice with allies to achieve victory. If those are too hard to live by in the Battleborn world, then a lot of players will probably start weeping, but on the other side of the fence, the opposing gamers could have the time of their lives.
