Warner Bros. and DC are making an assault on the big screen with new comic book movie announcements. Recently, Shazam was announced to much fanfare; now we're hearing that the Suicide Squad is getting its own film.

For those unaware of the Suicide Squad, well, it is a group of convicted criminals who are used by the government to tackle dangerous missions around the world in order to get time off their prison sentences. These missions are so dangerous that the government doesn't dare send in its own team; hence, the group is called Suicide Squad.

The squad has been getting a lot of love in the past couple of years. The team has featured prominently in Arrow season 2 and in Batman: Arkham Origins. Furthermore, the Suicide Squad has also gotten a comic book re-launch, proof that DC is serious about the future prospects of the team.

Who are the members of the Suicide Squad?

Over the years, members of the Suicide Squad have changed, but we're going to focus mainly on the original members.

One of the key members of the Suicide Squad is Deathstroke. He's usually the guy who leads the team and also the person who keeps everything under control for the purpose of saving their lives. If anyone tries to run off, Amanda Waller would likely have them killed on the spot.

How? Well, all members of the team have a small micro-bomb planted in the back of their heads, or at the back of their necks. If it should ever go off, instant decapitation.

The next member of the original team is Captain Boomerang. This is the same character that is poised to make an appearance in the Arrow and the Flash TV series as one of the main villains. He's also one of the main enemies to the Flash in Central City.

Next up we have King Shark, a humanoid shark. Yes, he's the weirdest member of the Suicide Squad, and he eats human flesh. His first appearance was in the fourth Superboy comic from back in October 1994, and from then he has become a regular character in the DC universe.

His father, by the way, is the Shark God, king of all sharks. Silly, silly, silly.

King Shark features prominently in the recently released DC animation Batman: Assault on Arkham.

The final member of this awesome team is Harley Quinn. We all know Harley Quinn, so there's no need to dig into her too much. She's usually the comic relief, and a person who is finding it difficult to stop loving The Joker, or Mr. J according to Harley.

Is a Suicide Squad movie a good idea?

Sure is, boys and girls. Such a movie would allow fans to experience DC characters they might have never heard of. The Suicide Squad is filled with B-List and C-List heroes and villains who would likely never go toe-to-toe with the Justice League.

The stories and struggles of these characters are very interesting, and it needs to be told.

The Suicide Squad film is expected to be directed by David Ayer, the man behind the upcoming World War II film starring Brad Pitt, Fury.
