HTC 10 is one of the newest flagship smartphones in the market. The latest handset gives stiff competition to rivals such as Samsung Galaxy S7 edge.

The HTC 10 and the Galaxy S7 edge are currently among the best Android smartphones available, but a speed test conducted by PhoneBuff suggests that the HTC 10 is slightly faster than the Galaxy device.

The Galaxy S7 edge as well as HTC 10 used for the speed test includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and 4 GB of RAM. Bothe devices run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. The HTC 10 sports a 5.2-inch screen while the Galaxy S7 edge touts a bigger 5.5-inch display. However, the devices pack in the same display resolution of 1,440 x 2,560 pixels.

PhoneBuff conducted the speed test in two laps. The first lap of the speed test for the HTC 10 and the Galaxy S7 edge included a test for checking how fast apps are loaded of the smartphone from storage. The test involved taking a selfie, opening various games, playing time-lapse video, opening websites and more.

The Galaxy S7 edge finished the first lap in 1 minute and 42 seconds. The HTC 10 finished the lap 10 seconds late at 1 minute and 52 seconds.

The second lap checked if the smartphones keeps the apps in the background so that it is easier for users to open or switch between apps without having entirely reloading them.

The HTC 10 raced to the finish line with the total time of 2 minutes and 21 seconds. Even though the Galaxy S7 was quicker in the first lap, it lagged behind in the second lap and finished the tasks in 2 minutes and 36 seconds.

PhoneBuff suggests that even though both the devices have many similar hardware specifications, software optimizations may play an important role in the overall speed of a smartphone.

The Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge are available in two variants: one with Snapdragon 820 processor for the U.S. market and the other with an Exynos 8 processor for the International market. PhoneBuff conducted a speed test on the two variants and found that the Exynos model of the Galaxy S7 was slightly faster than the Snapdragon iteration.
