BlackBerry Priv was one of the most sought after mobile devices after its launch, and many purchased the unlocked AT&T branded version due to compelling offers.

However, a lot of customers were unaware that for the BlackBerry Priv to get regular software updates, an AT&T SIM card must be placed inside. This means that if you use your BlackBerry Priv with any other carrier, you are missing out on security updates as well as the Android 6.0 update.

On the bright side, BlackBerry seems to be working on a solution to this predicament.

The BlackBerry Knowledge Base recently published a post saying that the company is taking steps to remedy the situation.

"BlackBerry is currently working on a solution to allow updates to be made available to these devices. This article will be updated when a solution is made available," the support page of the company reads.

In the United States, it is not uncommon to have T-Mobile SIM cards in BlackBerry Privs, and the owners of the devices are looking forward to receiving the essential updates. The problem could have been widespread to Verizon and Sprint, but BlackBerry decided that the Priv will not support CDMA. Both Sprint and Verizon run their networks via CDMA.

Earlier this year, AT&T's Priv was part of some sweet deals. In April, we reported on the unlocked smartphone's unbelievable price of $450. The default price for the BlackBerry Priv is $649, which comes with a $50 price trim.

The Priv sports powerful technical specs. It comes equipped with a 5.4-inch dual-curved AMOLED screen that provides resolutions of 2,560 x 1,440p. That's a solid 540 ppi right there, making it a strong competitor to flagships from bigger manufacturers. The screen also features Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for protection.

Processing power in the device comes from the Qualcomm's Snapdragon 808, which is backed by 3 GB of RAM. Default storage space is 32 GB, but via a microSD slot, expansion is up to 2 TB. Mobile photography enthusiasts should know that the Priv holsters a powerful combo made of an 18-megapixel main camera and a 2-megapixel selfie snapper.

The 3,410 mAh battery is large enough to keep the juice running in the device for a long time.
