Transformers: The Last Knight is bringing real meaning behind its title with its latest casting choice.

The filmmakers announced via Twitter on Friday that Sir Anthony Hopkins has officially joined the cast for the fifth installment of the franchise.

Hopkins will join the cast that includes Mark Wahlberg as Cade Yeager, the father and inventor on the side of the Autobots in Age of Extinction, and Josh Duhamel as Lieutenant Colonel William Lennox, who also aided the Autobots in the first three films. Comedian Jerrod Carmichael and Isabela Moner will also star in the film.

The live-action film is slated for next year and will be the last in the series to be directed by Michael Bay.

It's only fitting that Sir Hopkins joins the Transformers universe for The Last Knightsince this is clever casting based on his name as well as his acting chops. Hopkins is best known for his Oscar-winning performance as Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs. He has also starred in movies like Legends of the Fall, The Rite and Red 2, and received nominations for his roles in Nixon, The Remains of the Day and Amistad.

The 78-year-old acting legend has also recently joined another big movie franchise, Marvel's Thor movies. Hopkins is reprising his role as Thor's father Odin in Thor: Ragnarok, set for November 3, 2017.

What role will the established actor play in Transformers 5?

At this point in time, it is not exactly known whether the actor will play a human character or voice a robot. It's also unknown whether his character will be on the side of Automats or Decepticons. It is known that The Last Knight is bringing back Optimus Prime's (voiced by Peter Cullen) nemesis Megatron. It would be interesting to see whether or not Hopkins' role has anything to do with the villain.

Then again, another Twitter teaser hinted at a new character from the planet Cybertron. This could very well mean that Hopkins will be a bot in the film, maybe even Goldbug, although this is just speculation.

Until more details are released, fans will just have to wait to see (or hear) Hopkins in his role when Transformers: The Last Knight hits theaters on June 23, 2017.
