iPhones and iPads are some of the most popular mobile devices available in the market. The iDevices offer good usage time but that may not be enough for many users.

Tablets and smartphones are used for performing many activities such as watching videos, listening to music, browsing, playing games and calling, which drains a lot of battery power. This is why customers are always on the look out to improve the battery life of their devices.

Most of the iPhones and iPads run on the company's latest operating system iOS 9. According to Apple, the iPhone 6s offers up to 14 hours and the iPhone 6s Plus touts 24 hours of talk time on 3G. The HD video playback time for the iPhone 6s is up to 11 hours while the bigger device can play up to 14 hours. Audio playback time for the iPhone 6s is up to 50 hours and for the iPhone 6s Plus up to 80 hours.

iPad Pro 9.7 and iPad Pro 12.9 owners get up to 10 hours of surfing the web on Wi‐Fi, watching videos or listening to music.

Still, iDevice owners can improve the battery efficiency of their iPhone and iPads. Here are some tips on how to save battery life of devices running on iOS 9.

Software

Apple suggests that updating the iPhone or the iPad to the latest version of the operating system is important. Software updates contain advanced energy-saving technologies, which can help preserve the battery life of an iDevice.

Go to Settings > General > Software Update on your iDevice to check for latest updates.

Temperature

The temperature at which an iPhone or iPad is used can also determine how long the power of the iDevice will last. According to Apple, iPhones and iPads work best at 32 degrees Fahrenheit to 95 degrees Fahrenheit, or 0 degree Celsius to 35 degrees Celsius.

Apple also suggests that charging an iDevice in higher ambient temperature of above 95 degrees Fahrenheit can damage the battery of an iPhone or iPad.

Cases

Charging generates excess heat. Some iPhone and iPad cases do not allow escape of this excess heat. It is recommended to remove the cases of the iPhone or iPad when they are getting charged to avoid battery damage.

Optimize Settings

Optimizing the display settings can also help preserve battery life of iPads and iPhones. Dim the display brightness or turn on Auto Brightness to improve battery life.

Go to Settings > Display & Brightness and set Auto-Brightness to On.

Wi-Fi is required to connect to the internet. Switching off Wi-Fi when not needed can also extend the battery life of the devices.

Go to Settings > Wi-Fi to turn off a Wi-Fi connection.

Apps that use GPS also drains the battery. Customers can go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services and see the apps that use location services. Users can also disable the apps they do not want to access the iDevice's built-in GPS.

Low Power Mode

The Low Power Mode of iOS 9 automatically reduces the brightness of iPhone and iPad screens and optimizes device performance. iDevices will not download content in the background when Low Power Mode is turned on.

"Introduced with iOS 9, Low Power Mode is an easy way to extend the battery life of your iPhone when it starts to get low. Your iPhone lets you know when your battery level goes down to 20%, and again at 10%, and lets you turn on Low Power Mode with one tap," says Apple.

iDevice owners can go to Settings > General > Battery > Lower Power Mode and turn on this mode.

Battery Usage Information

Apple claims that iOS 9 is the most battery-efficient iOS ever made by the company. The latest operating system gives a precise way to manage the battery life of iDevices. Users can see how apps are using power. Turning off the background activity of apps can help in extending battery life.

Users can go to Settings > General > Battery and see battery usage information.
