For Batman fans who have ever wondered what it's like to step inside the mind of the Caped Crusader, Batman: The Telltale Series is a welcome addition to the Batman mythology.

In traditional Telltale style, the new game will let players essentially become Bruce Wayne and Batman as they make important moral decisions that will affect Gotham City and everyone in it.

"Enter the fractured psyche of Bruce Wayne and discover the powerful and far-reaching consequences of your choices as the Dark Knight," Telltale writes on its website. "In this gritty and violent new story from the award-winning creators of The Walking Dead – A Telltale Games Series, you'll make discoveries that will shatter Bruce Wayne's world, and the already fragile stability of a corrupt Gotham City."

In Batman: The Telltale Series, every choice the player makes as Bruce Wayne will affect everything within his world, including what happens in Gotham City, as well as how Bruce's allies and archenemies view their world.

Telltale released the first trailer for the game, which gives players an idea of what its story will involve and what familiar Batman characters will turn up. It's dark and gritty: it's Gotham.

The first episode of Batman: The Telltale Series, Realm of Shadows, will arrive digitally on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, iOS and Android on Aug. 2. A physical release follows on Sept. 13 with a special Season Pass Disc, which will include the first episode and access to all five additional episodes in the series.

"Rendered to look like a living, breathing comic book, Telltale's vision of Batman will feature an award-winning cast of talent, including Troy Baker in the role of Bruce Wayne, Travis Willingham as Harvey Dent, Erin Yvette as Vicki Vale, Enn Reitelas [as] Alfred Pennyworth, Murphy Guyer as Lieutenant James Gordon, Richard McGonagle as Carmine Falcone, and Laura Bailey as Selina Kyle," Telltale wrote in a press release. "Additional cast and characters will be revealed as the season progresses."

A few lucky San Diego Comic-Con attendees will also have access to the game through a special crowd play event.

Batman: The Telltale Series will differ greatly from the Rocksteady Arkham franchise of games. The Telltale Series will feature a different kind of storytelling that is focused more on choice-based decisions and branching plot lines, as well as an art style that more closely resembles comic books.
