The artist in you can now take advantage of Prisma — the popular photo filter app which was available for iOS and recently launched for Android devices — but before you head to the Play Store to download it, be warned that there are plenty of fake Prisma apps.

That's right, several developers are sneakily trying to cash in on Prisma's popularity and, therefore, have come up with their own versions of the Prisma app. These apps are counterfeit and available on the Play Store.

Since the authentic Prisma app is relatively new on the Google Play Store, the server throws up quite a number of fake Prisma applications when one searches for "Prisma" as shown in the screenshot below.

How to avoid being duped and download the genuine Prisma app?

To download the authentic Prisma app, ensure you check for the publisher's name, which should be "Prisma Labs, inc." The contact email on the bottom should be "contact@prisma-ai.com."

Prisma is gaining a steady fan following, thanks to the fact that it applies a slew of "artistic" filters to one's photo. Once you have added your artistic touch, you can share the image on social platforms such as Facebook or Instagram through the Android share option.

The Russian-made app has more than 30 filters to offer users, which enhance and help alter the photos. Users can adjust the strength of a particular filter with a mere swipe! You can import images from the phone gallery or even deploy the camera function to click an image instantly and make it Prismatic!

Currently, Prisma has no in-app purchases and is compatible with devices running Android 4.1 or upwards. The app is free.

What sets Prisma apart from competing apps that also render filters is that it essentially converts an image into what looks like an expressionist painting. The app uses a cloud-based AI that seeks out prisms and features on-the-go.

"Prisma transforms your photos into artworks using the styles of famous artists: Munk, Picasso as well as world famous ornaments and patterns. A unique combination of neural networks and artificial intelligence helps you turn memorable moments into timeless art," notes the app description.

The stunning photo effects from Prisma have caught the fancy of users. However, some people may not be too happy about the Prisma logo watermark on their artistic creations. We have a quick solution to your problem if you fall into this category — how to remove that annoying watermark swiftly. Here's how:

Step 1: Open the Settings button from the main screen where you can take photos.

Step 2: You will espy the Add watermark setting. Uncheck the same.
