The highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will make its debut in the U.S. on Oct. 17 and Samsung has just released a software update to improve battery life and overall stability.

In previous years, phablet fans didn't have too many choices when it came to choosing a jumbo-sized smartphone. The best and main contender was always Samsung's Galaxy Note. The company catapulted to the top of the small-sized tablet smartphone category, even when tech critics slammed the device for being too large.

Samsung and consumers proved the tech critics wrong and the Galaxy Note quickly became the world's most popular phablet series. When it was clear that consumers didn't mind carrying around large smartphones, other companies decided to follow Samsung with phablets of their own.

Phablet fans will soon have some excellent choices, whether it's Apple's just-released and sold out 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus, which can be tracked down with a new worldwide availability tracker or a guide we just put together to help you find the best deal on both the iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6. Google is also preparing to release its first phablet, the very impressive 5.9-inch Motorola-built Nexus 6 in the very near future.

Samsung will release its next-generation Samsung Galaxy Note 4 on Oct. 17 in the U.S. and it will be offered by AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile. The just-released software update ahead of the release of the new phablet will significantly improve battery life and overall stability, according to SamMobile.

The site notes that Samsung has already released the OTA update and its firmware number is listed as XXU1ANJ4. The file size is rather small, coming in at 36 MB, but don't let the small size fool you. The update promises to significantly improve battery life to the phablet's already large 3,200 mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 owners will be able to download the software update Oct. 17 by going into the Settings app, tap "About Phone," then tap "Software Update" and they will be notified that there's an available software update. Apply the update and the phablet will now have significantly improved battery life as well as overall stability improvements.

It's great to see that Samsung is already addressing the issue before the Galaxy Note 4 hits store shelves and, more important, consumer's hands.
