Konami has announced that fans of the Metal Gear series will get a broader perspective on the latest title in the installment during the Tokyo Game Show 2016.

Gamers who visited its booth on Sept. 17 were able to watch a gameplay trailer of the upcoming Metal Gear Survive. Insiders from the company touted that the gameplay will not stray too far from the previous game, Metal Gear Solid V, and the video backs their claim.

Konami leaked news of the Metal Gear Survive as early as August, and it promised that more will be unveiled at its home country's Game Show. The stage event should give fans a great deal of insight into the game, while users could watch the trailer it live on YouTube and Nico nico.

But does the Metal Gear Survive bring anything new?

The game is a four player co-op that takes a big leaf out of its predecessor, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. It features an alternate timeline that continues the story in the series, but brings new elements such as huge wormholes in the sky. A part of the fan base was disgruntled with the lack of explanation for the gravitational abnormalities, but we suppose every game has its plot holes.

Players will see their characters getting sucked into the wormholes and transported to a distorted terrain populated with biologically mutated creature, where they will have to cooperate and coordinate with each other in order to survive in the hostile environment.

Gematsu reports that completely new content is in store for the game, such as novel combat weapons and never before seen deadly creatures. A cool new weapon comes in form of a bow and arrow with a spinning arrowhead, while the dangerous creatures seem to be some sort of human-zombie-unicorn hybrid.

The existing trailer of the game rolled out at Gamescom 2016 and does a pretty good job at shedding some light on the atmosphere of the title. Briefly, we see that the soldiers formerly assigned to the Mother Base were sucked into an alternate universe, where they were forced to make due with makeshift weapons.

Some fans of the series are circumspect about the upcoming title, and their discontent with the gaming company only grew since it parted ways with the game creator Hideo Kojima.

Regardless of the fans' feedback, Metal Gear Survive will land on all gaming platforms, namely PlayStation4, PC and Xbox One in 2017.
