Apple's first-gen smartwatch may be lagging behind Rolex when it comes to global watch sales, but the company is hoping that its latest Apple Watch Series 2 will improve the wearable's popularity.

The original Apple Watch has the distinction of being the most preferred smartwatch all over the globe in 2015 and the next-gen version seems poised to cement its numero uno spot in 2016.

The Apple Watch Series 2 was released on Sept. 16 and starts at $369. The next-gen model features several enhancement over its predecessor and here are the top 5 features that make the Apple Watch Series 2 worth the buy despite its expensive price tag.

Water Resistance

The Apple Watch Series 2 is waterproof — or swim proof as Apple calls it. The new smartwatch can be submerged in up to 50 meters (164 feet) of water, so the user can go swimming while wearing the device. The fact that it has an accompanying swimming app now will help keep track of the laps swam and aid in sticking to the wearer's fitness goals.

The cool feature about the second-gen wearable is that it deploys sound vibrations to flush out any water in the speaker grille, which is the sole non-sealed aspect in the smartwatch.

The Apple wearable also boasts a water lock support feature in the swimming section of the fitness app, which basically ensures that any accidental touch or splash does not swipe on the display. The display basically automatically locks when it gets submerged.

The Apple Watch Series 2 is also more durable than its previous gen models as it touts an aluminum coating, as well as a double-layered cover.

Enhanced Display

The second-gen OLEd Retina display of the Apple Watch Series 2 is "two times brighter than before" per the company. The display has a 60 fps frame rate and the screen is super clear.

Built-In GPS

The Apple wearable holds the distinction of being the first-ever watch to house a GPS tracker. So basically, when seeking out a location or a particular place you do not need the iPhone handy.

Pokémon GO

The thought of playing Pokémon GO on the smartwatch instead of on the phone is pretty cool. watchOS 3 now features the popular game and users can sync Pokémon GO from their phone to the Apple Watch. So not only can the wearer jog around, but also catch Pokémon!

Faster Processor

The Apple Watch Series 2 houses a faster processor than the first-gen model. The dual-core S2 processor is 50 percent faster than the first-gen one (520 MHz chip in the S1 processor). Moreover, the new GPU gives it two times better graphics performance.
