Upset fans have blasted Activision and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare since the game's reveal earlier this year, and this latest bit of fine print isn't likely to make them any happier.

As Call of Duty fansite Charlie Intel reports, new wording added to the Call of Duty website suggests that players will actually be unable to play Modern Warfare Remastered without also owning Infinite Warfare.

"At launch, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered will contain only 10 MP maps from the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game," the fine print reads. "Additional MP maps will be made available by 12/31/2016. Modern Warfare Remastered is a full game download (game disc must be inserted to play Modern Warfare Remastered)."

The wording makes it seem that those who purchase the Legacy or Legacy Pro edition of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will be required to have the disc for Infinite Warfare inserted into their console in order to access Modern Warfare Remastered, a detail previously unknown.

That means players planning on purchasing the Legacy or Legacy Pro edition of Infinite Warfare, snagging Modern Warfare Remastered and then selling Infinite Warfare back are out of luck. It has no effect on those buying the digital versions of the Legacy or Legacy Pro editions, as the games are digital and can't be sold or traded in.

Considering how vocal numerous fans have been about wanting to be able to purchase Modern Warfare Remastered separately outside of Infinite Warfare, the new wording on the Call of Duty website isn't likely to go over well. Many fans feel alienated by the franchise's continued focus on science fiction, a departure from the series that began as a World War II shooter.

Modern Warfare Remastered is a return to a modern military setting that many fans have long waited for, only Activision is essentially forcing players to also purchase a game they don't want - Infinite Warfare - in order to play it.

It's a bold move on Activision's part. On one hand, the company looks to make a lot of money by bundling Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare Remastered, as it captures both current fans of the franchise as well as those who enjoyed older entries in the series. On the other hand, Activision is also at risk of angering many fans as well, fans who possibly could walk away from the franchise forever.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare releases on Nov. 4 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
