What if I told you that you never had to do math again? Never again scribble your take-aways or carry-overs onto the margins of your notebook for quick calculations, and never again lift a finger to key in numbers on a calculator?

The future of math problem-solving will be in the palm of your hand, thanks to a new app called PhotoMath, set for release in 2015. With the app fired up in your mobile device, simply point your camera at the equation you need to solve, and just like that -- in real time -- the solution will be displayed on your screen.

If you would like to know how exactly the problem was solved, the app can also display step-by-step solutions for easy studying.

The technology behind PhotoMath was developed by the startup company MicroBlink, a text recognition company based in London and Croatia, which launched the app at the TechCrunch Disrupt Europe event in London.

The app was primarily designed to showcase the company's technology and their impressive text recognition engine, but students everywhere are probably already awaiting the official release date of the app to help them soon with their homework.

"We are not an educational company; we are promoting our machine vision technology with PhotoMath," said the company's co-founder and CEO Damir Sabol.

The app will be made available for devices running iOS and Windows Mobile. An Android version is in the works as well.

According to the official website, PhotoMath has the ability to instantly solve arithmetic expressions, fractions and decimals, powers and roots, and simple linear equations.

Upcoming features may also include the ability to read handwritten text which, according to developers, is still problematic but already works.

Although MicroBlink's smart camera calculator won't be available until early 2015, you can subscribe to their mailing list for updates on the release.
