A new HTC smartphone has dropped by the Bluetooth SIG and it's believed to be none other than the One X10, successor to the One X9.

As a reminder, the HTC One X9 from last year was similar to the One A9, but it carried a lower price tag and added BoomSound stereo front speakers to sweeten the deal.

Some rumors indicated that the One X10 might be a sequel to the One A9, not the One X9, but that seems unlikely.

HTC is expected to host a launch event on Jan. 12 and the purported HTC One X10 could be one of the stars of the event. An unknown HTC device has now received certification from the Bluetooth SIG and it might just be the One X10, getting ready to hit the market.

HTC Smartphone At Bluetooth SIG

The handset certified by Bluetooth SIG carries model number 2PYR1XX. While the listing does not specify a device name that would confirm we're talking about the One X10, some hints in the model number do hint in this direction.

As PhoneArena points out, the last part of the model number, specifically the "1XX" part, could stand for One, X and 10 written as a Roman numeral. Should this turn out to be accurate, that 1XX would translate to One X10. Keep in mind, however, that there's no evidence yet to support this claim and the listed device could well be some other smartphone.

HTC One X10 Rumored Specs

The HTC One X10 is expected to hit the scene as a midrange smartphone with a 5.5-inch full HD display (1,920 x 1,080 pixels), an octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor clocked at 2 GHz, Mali T-860 graphics and 3 GB of RAM. Other purported specs include a 13-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS).

When it comes to pricing, the midrange HTC One X10 is expected to cost roughly $288 when it hits the market, making it an affordable device less than half the price of high-end flagships.

It remains to be seen whether these specs will turn out to be accurate and the HTC One X10 will indeed debut on Jan. 12, but it's definitely a possibility. HTC has fallen behind rivals in recent years and despite its efforts to make a comeback, Apple and Samsung still dominate the smartphone market.

The HTC 10 flagship stirred some waves upon its debut, but failed to see great success. Making another attempt with a combination of high-end and midrange devices could help HTC get a bigger bite of the smartphone market, but it's all just speculation for now. As always in such cases, take all leaks and rumors with a grain of salt.
