Sony smartphone users have reason to celebrate as the company has started rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat for the Xperia Z5 series.

The build number 32.A.0.372 phones have been selected for the update and few handsets have already started getting the update notifications.

Xperia Z5 and Z5 Premium are the only Xperia handsets that are currently benefitting from the Android N update.

Reports suggest that the updates will arrive soon for the Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z3+ and the Xperia Z4 tablet. The new firmware, certified just days ago, is bringing support for Android 7.0 Nougat.

As reported by XperiaBlog, users will be able to access features like multi-windows and benefit from an enhanced battery life. Other new features include a self-timer button for the front-facing camera and the newest version of Google Now has been integrated into the Xperia Home launcher.

Some tweaks will also be seen in the messaging interface, as Android has revamped it to lend a new look to your messages.

The Xperia Z5's software was less than satisfactory in 2016 as it was rife with bugs. It remains to be seen whether these issues have been fixed in the latest update or not. The earlier bugs included the smartphone bricking and Google Play shutting down. Users were unable to access the Play Store which caused frustration to one and all.

The new build however promises a number of changes. The update is not integrated with Android 7.1.1, which is the latest update. It is based on the 5-month old update, version 7.0. Therefore, users may not be able to experience some of the latest features of Nougat.

Sony Xperia Z5 Specs

The Xperia Z5 has a 5.2-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It also supports multi-touch (up to 10 fingers) and has a scratchproof oleophobic glass.

The processor deployed by the Xperia Z5 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 and it also has 3 GB of RAM. The on-board storage offered by the handset is 32 GB, expandable to up to 256 GB through microSD card.

The primary camera is 23-megapixels and supports phase detection autofocus technology, LED flash and panorama. The secondary shooter is 5-megapixels and supports1080p HDR recording.

The Xperia Z5 cam pre-loaded with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on release, which is now upgradable to Android 7.0 Nougat.

Android Nougat has been gradually extending its reach since its release in 2016. With Sony pushing out the update for the Xperia Z5, its other devices which are languishing on Android 6.0 Marshmallow are now in line to receive the updates.
