AppDynamics, a developer of management tools for application performance, has launched new collaboration and analytics features for its cloud-based services.

AppDynamics made the announcement on the new software and their release in the Fall of this year in the first Appsphere user conference, which was held in Las Vegas.

The company is seeking to expand into new markets with the update on its current performance monitoring tools, which will provide real-time data and insights to its users as well as add new capabilities to keep the tools current with the latest technologies in Web development.

Developers use application performance monitoring systems (APM), paired with specialized software to collect data on the performance and operations of applications. The data is then sent to IT officials who use the information to detect errors and possible issues.

However, companies have recently found that the data collected by APM systems can also prove to be valuable to business managers, as such products allow these business managers to study "every interaction within the software stack, from the end user through the business logic," said Jonah Kowall, an analyst for Gartner.

Application Analytics, a new feature in the platform of AppDynamics, could assist business managers in identifying the most used features of an app, for example. The feature could also assist in the calculation of the cost in terms of lost revenue during the outage of an app over a period of time. Application Analytics can also determine which apps are underperforming, allowing managers to decide on which projects to better invest in.

According to AppDynamics, obtaining such data through APM systems is better than obtaining the same from standard data warehouses because business managers will instantly get the information as they are generated, allowing managers to make quick decisions as needed.

In addition to the new capabilities in terms of analytics, the Fall update of AppDynamics also includes a new feature named the Virtual War Room.

The Virtual War Room allows team members to collaborate on a certain project by giving them a space where collected data can be discussed. The feature also allows for the automatic sending of pre-configured e-mails to several recipients containing data reports.

The Fall release also includes new analysis tools that will help in understanding the behavior of complex applications. One such tool, named the cross-application flow, shows the interaction between applications that are working on a single task. Another tool will allow the examination of WebSocket performance.

The Pro version of the AppDynamics platform has a monthly fee of $180, but a free Lite version is also available.
