A tipster with a proven track record has shared a new image and more details on Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S8 series. The photo shows the handset will have a fingerprint scanner on the rear, include a 3.5 mm headphone port, and will be released on April 21.

For the last couple of years, Samsung has used Mobile World Congress to unveil its flagship Galaxy S series smartphones. The company debuted the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge at MWC 2015 and took home the top prize for best new handset. Samsung followed up at last year's show with the launch of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge and was widely rumored to unveil the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus at MWC 2017.

We now know that Samsung won't officially launch the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus at Mobile World Congress, which kicks off on Feb. 27, but is expected to show off the new smartphones to select partners and media at the trade show.

Reliable Source Reveals New Galaxy S8 And S8 Plus Details

The always-reliable Evan Blass (a.k.a. @evleaks) and VentureBeat have published the above image of what is supposedly the Samsung Galaxy S8. The tipster has also revealed when we can expect Samsung to officially launch the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, how much each model will cost, and the release date.

Fingerprint Scanner Relocated

Recent reports have claimed that Samsung will use a new curved edge bezel-less display, which will have its fingerprint scanner embedded directly into the screen. As you can clearly see in the image above, the fingerprint scanner will not grace the front of the smartphone and be embedded into its display. Instead, the company appears to have chosen to relocate it to the rear of the handset, right next to its camera.

The leaked photo also backs up a previous report, which showed the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus will retain the standard 3.5 mm headphone port on the bottom of the device, along with a USB Type-C port.

Samsung Galaxy S8 And S8 Plus Display Sizes And Battery Capacity

The source claims that the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus will rock a 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED curved edge displays that cover 83 percent of the front of the smartphones to create a near bezel-less display. The Galaxy S8 is said to include a 3,000 mAh non-removable battery (same as Galaxy S7), and the Galaxy S8 Plus will use a 3,500 mAh non-removable battery.

Samsung will reportedly make 64 GB of internal storage as the baseline for both handsets, run Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, include 4 GB of RAM, and a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 256 GB microSD cards.

Galaxy S8 And S8 Plus Launch Date, Price, And Release Date

The report claims that Samsung will hold an Unpacked event on March 29 in New York City to officially launch the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. The pair will reportedly cost about $106 (€100) more than the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, with the 5.8-inch Galaxy S8 starting at $853 (€799) and the 6.2-inch Galaxy S8 Plus starting at $960 (€899), and as we reported in early January, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus will go on sale April 21.

As always, we'll keep you posted on any new information regarding the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus as it becomes available.
