Apple has quietly rolled out a firmware update for AirPods bumping the version to 3.5.1. The update will be fixing some "miscellaneous minor" bugs in the wireless earphone.

The firmware update for AirPods is currently available for automatic installation. To install the update, the user needs to put the AirPods in the charging case and plug it to a charger. After plugging it in, the case needs to be linked to an iPhone with access to Wi-Fi.

The user can then proceed to check the installed firmware revision by selecting the General option from the Settings menu. From the General option, select About and then click on AirPods.

For the unfamiliar, user of the accessory have complained on Reddit about connectivity issues while using AirPods that are linked to the iPhone over Bluetooth.

Connectivity Issues With AirPods

A recent thread on Reddit highlighted the plight of several AirPods users who were reportedly facing some problems with their wireless earphones. Users were apparently experiencing a drop in the Bluetooth connection with the AirPods during phone calls. The AirPods are otherwise working perfectly fine when used for audio playback.

"I have connection issues when making phone calls. I can't make a phone call that lasts more than 10 minutes without the AirPods disconnecting. I can listen to music and podcasts for hours with little issue," stated a harried AirPods user on Reddit.

The problem is not widespread as it was reported only by a few iPhone users. The issue was seen recurring mostly on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. However, some iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus users also reported experiencing the same issue later.

Moreover, the battery drain issue with the AirPods charging case is also concerning, as several users report that the battery inside the case declines by 40 percent within a few hours of charging.

Users are optimistic that the latest firmware update for the AirPods will address these issues and fix them as soon as possible.

At launch, AirPods met with a negative reaction from Apple fans all over the world. The negativity strengthened when users with an affection for music, were forced to buy the AirPods as the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus came without a headphone jack.

However, the advanced technology, quality of sound and ease of use of the AirPods offered won over millions after their initial rejection of the earphones.

Whether the current firmware update addresses users' concerns, especially when pertaining to connectivity, is not clear. Have you received the firmware update? Does it address the issue? Let us know in the comments section.
