With For Honor now released for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, Ubisoft has decided to reveal information related to the beta tests of the action game.

For Honor, which pits players against one another in melee combat as either knights, samurai, or vikings, is one the most anticipated video games for the year. The hype surrounding the medieval fighting game is evidenced by how many players participated in its beta testing.

More Than 6 Million Players Participated In For Honor Beta

According to Ubisoft, the beta tests that were carried out for For Honor were able to attract more than 6 million unique players, showing the interest that the game has generated. Collectively, these players on the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One were able to log playing time of more than 2 billion minutes.

The interest of players in For Honor was maintained over the beta period. In fact, for the open beta weekend of Feb. 11 to Feb. 12, there were 3 million players, which is equivalent to half of the players that participated in beta testing for the game.

Ubisoft also noted that For Honor represented one of the largest beta phases in the history of the company for PC games, as the title was able to attract 1.8 million participants on the platform.

The numbers are impressive for a new franchise, but they pale in comparison to other betas by recently released titles. Battlefield 1 currently holds the record for the most popular beta with 13.2 million platers participating, followed by Overwatch with 9.7 million players, Star Wars Battlefront with 9.5 million players, and Tom Clancy's The Division with 6.4 million players. For Honor, however, was able to beat the beta numbers of Destiny, which had 4.6 million players.

It should be noted that the number of participants in beta tests does not necessarily predict the popularity of games upon their launch. For example, while Star Wars Battlefront ranks third among recent betas in terms of number of players, the game is now rarely discussed among gaming communities compared to titles such as Battlefield 1 and Overwatch.

Knights Win Faction War

For the open beta of For Honor, Ubisoft launched the Faction War, which spans across all three platforms for the game.

Players can choose between signing up for The Legion, The Chosen, and The Warborn, which represent knights, samurai, and vikings, respectively. Players then accumulate accolades for their respective factions under the Faction War, whether they are playing on the PC, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One.

At the end of the open beta, Ubisoft announced that the winner was The Legion, which means that the players who took up roles as knights will be receiving Emblems of Power with golden frames that they will be able to access after they purchase the full game.

For Honor Reviews

Reviewers were only able to gain access to For Honor at the same time as regular players, so complete and in-depth reviews for the game are still ongoing. Reviews released early may be rushed and likely incomplete.

Once enough time has passed for reviews to be written with as much detail as possible in terms of praise or criticism, we will be launching a review roundup for the benefit players who are still deciding on whether or not to purchase For Honor.
