ZTE Axon 7 smartphone users will be pleased to learn that the OEM is rolling out the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update for the handset now.

This news will come as a surprise to many as companies like Samsung, LG, and HTC are yet to push out the software update for their premium smartphones.

With ZTE pushing out the Android 7.1.1 nougat update for the Axon 7, the handset gets the distinction of becoming the first non-Google device to benefit from the OS.

What Has ZTE Announced?

ZTE has released the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update for its premier flagship phone the Axon 7. The Chinese company had launched the Axon 7 in 2016 and had spent a good deal of time beta-testing Android Nougat on the device.

As reported by Tech Times earlier, there had been an initial delay in the roll out of the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Axon 7. The reason given was that company officials felt that the Daydream software failed to meet up to expectations.

Now the Axon 7 is all set to receive a jump as it is being upgraded to Android 7.1.1 Nougat. This update rolls out on March 16, 2017, and marks the first non-Google device to avail the update. Up until now, only the Google Pixel and Nexus handsets have been privy to the latest update.

"Last month we updated the Axon 7 from Android Marshmallow to Nougat, giving you a major OS upgrade along with Daydream capabilities. Today we're rolling out another update with additional improvements including an upgrade from 7.0 to 7.1.1 to give you the best of what Google can provide," shared ZTE in a blog post.

What Are The Features Of The Update?

According to the changelog, there are some re-shuffles when it comes to the interface, the changes are comparatively modest.

T-Mobile has enabled Wi-Fi calling and Axon 7 users will be able to receive and send text messages and calls over Wi-Fi. The emojis are available in both the genders, after the upgrade to Android 7.1.1. A huge array of emojis, comprising professions, activities, and moods are also now available.

The Daydream module has been upgraded and modified, leading to a better and smoother virtual experience. Google had also fixed many security issues in February and that a monthly security patch is available for this upgrade.

In addition to these, the Axon 7 will also benefit from bug fixes and enhancements.

The Android 7.1.1 Nougat update for the ZTE Axon 7 is an over-the-air (OTA) one and is being pushed out in phases. As a result, it may take some time before the update hits your Axon 7.
