The 18th Hollywood Film Awards kicked off recently, and several top movies and actors walked away with awards. The most prestigious award, however, went to the critically acclaimed Gone Girl. The movie is starred by Ben Affleck, a man who is having marital issues with his wife.
We have watched Gone Girl in the past, and we came away very impressed. This a film, while slow in some areas, is deserving of more than just a Hollywood Film Award, an Oscar. Director David Fincher did a splendid job, and he should be commended by his peers.
Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike were the stars of the show, more so Pike than Affleck. This movie was hers to control and to do whatever with it she saw fit. From the beginning, Pike was in complete control of everything, and it shows quite often.
For those who are not aware, Gone Girl is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by American writer Gillian Flynn. The book was published back in 2012, so to have a movie adaptation 2 years after is sign enough how great the story is. Folks who have not watched this film should go out and give it a spin.
On the matter of other awards, Benedict Cumberbatch walked away with the best actor trophy for his role in Imitation Game, while actress Julianne Moore took the prize for best actress for her role in Still Alice.
Guardians of the Galaxy was given the award for being the biggest blockbuster of the year. Might not have been the best movie as the overabundance of comedy in the film distracted viewers from its many shortcomings. However, the award is very much deserving.
