Mass Effect: Andromeda has a ton of weapons in store, and the sheer number is not the only daunting task regarding them, as there are plenty of upgrades and customizations too.

In this guide, we're going to cover the basics when it comes to firearms and melee options, from mods and augments to maxing out slots — a primer of sorts.

How To Get Weapons In 'Mass Effect: Andromeda'

Just like in most RPGs, you can get ahold of weapons in three ways: from vendors, loot drops, and crafting.

Purchasing firearms and whatnot is pretty straightforward. As long as the merchant has the item you want in stock, you can nab it — if you have enough credits, of course.

Relying on loot drops to acquire weapons won't cost you a dime, but what you're getting is random. That means you need a mix of luck and patience to get what you need.

Meanwhile, crafting is probably the trickiest way to obtain weapons since you have to amass blueprints by spending Research Data and collect materials.

It should be pointed out that you don't have to depend on just crafting to get the weapon from a blueprint. Once you research a blueprint, the corresponding weapon will start turning up in the outside world.

Maxing Out Weapon Slots

By default, you'll have three weapon slots in the beginning, two of which are for firearms and one of which for melee weapons.

To up your game, you have to invest some skill points in Combat Fitness. When you reach Rank 3, you'll get a total of four slots, and when you hit Rank 5, you'll have a total of five slots.

Weapon Augments

Put simply, augments are upgrades to your weapon that can be applied as you craft one.

You can't use as many as you want in one weapon, though. There's a limit, which is listed down in the info.

Now, similar to other weapons, augments can also be acquired by way of blueprints.

The thing is, once you apply augments to a weapon, you can't remodify it later in the game. In other words, they're permanent, so you'll need to craft another weapon if you want to change the specs.

Weapon Mods

Mods are sort of like augments, in the sense that they both enhance your weapon. The difference is that while augments are permanent, mods aren't.

Needless to say, they are implemented after a weapon has been assembled, not before crafting one.

To reiterate, these are just the basics of weapons in Mass Effect: Andromeda, but if anything, these can be considered as the foundation of getting some of the best weapons in the game.

Before wrapping things up, it's worth mentioning that a crafty modder — not related to weapon mods — raised the bar in terms of graphics by making the most out of the game's Frostbite engine. For those who don't know, the people who worked on the animations have been receiving flak and getting harassed, namely Allie Rose-Marie Leost.
