If Marissa Mayer has been having headaches with the multi-day outage of the company's free webmail service, it is all sunny for the Yahoo Weather app, which now supports the iPad.

The latest iteration of Yahoo Weather app (v.1.5) is specifically designed for the bigger screen of the iPad and the iPad mini. One of the main and adored features of the weather app are the images sourced from Flickr that serves as backdrop of the weather information.

"We've created a spectacular new design that takes advantage of the larger screen. You'll immediately see a smart summary of weather data along with curated photography. As you scroll, forecasts, graphs and weather data delightfully animate with every interaction. Watch as raindrops fall, clouds move in, and the sun rises," wrote director of product management for mobile weather Adam Mathes on Flickr's official blog.

The app has been tweaked to make use of the generous screen real estate of the iPad. Yahoo Weather gives users a quick glance of current conditions and a next-day forecast by default. Users can scroll down to see detailed graphical information about sky conditions, temperature, and precipitation. Those who seek a 10-day forecast can also access the predicted conditions.

The app features a clear animation to show users sunrise and sunset, phases of the moon, and wind conditions. It also provides satellite imagery for the desired location of the user along with other relevant weather information.

"We've also included a new sharing feature that lets you connect with friends and family by sending the weather conditions and photo for any location via text, email, Twitter or Facebook," Mathes added.

Those who want to share images can send their contributions to the Project Weather Flickr group that collates all submissions.

The last update rolled out by Yahoo for its weather application for Android and iOS devices was released in April. The Android version got revamped mid-August.

The Yahoo Weather app was recognized by Apple as one of the most well-designed apps for iOS devices. The iPhone and iPad maker recognized how the application raised the standards in terms of innovation, design, and technology in June during the 2013 Apple Design Award.
