With the early response and tracking for Wonder Woman, it looks like the sequel is inevitable. With that in mind, who are some villains that Diana Prince could take on in the sequel.

Cheetah

The first choice is a fairly obvious one, and that is the Cheetah. Cheetah is one of Diana's oldest and most personal enemies, serving as her Joker or Lex Luthor. The beauty of going with Cheetah is that she's one of those characters to have multiple, successful iterations that could be used in the sequel. There are two in particular that stand out, Priscilla Rich and Barbara Ann Minerva.

Priscilla Rich is the original incarnation of the character from the early Wonder Woman comics. In it, she is an aristocratic young woman who suffers from a split personality in the form of the Cheetah. However, the best version of Priscilla Warner Bros. and DC could go with is from Alex Ross's series Justice from the mid-2000s. While it does keep some of the split personality aspects, she uses some magic as well to fight Wonder Woman.

Minerva is the current version of the Cheetah, introduced following the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" storyline. Minerva is a selfish archeologist who was imbued with the power of the cheetah during a trip to Africa, physically transforming to resemble one. She would meet Diana because of her obsession with the Lasso of Truth. She feigns friendship to try and get it but is discovered. As time goes on, her desire goes from the lasso to beating Diana in battle, proving she is the more powerful of the two.

The First Born

A more recent addition to Wonder Woman's villain gallery is The First Born. The character was introduced following DC's prelaunch in 2011 with the New 52. In the relaunch, Wonder Woman's origin was altered to make her the biological daughter of Zeus and Hippolyta instead of being made of clay. The First Born plays into that, earning his moniker being the first born son of Zeus and Hera. He was prophesized to sit atop Olympus after killing the other gods, leading Zeus to try and kill him. However, he survived and would grow into a monstrously strong and vengeful being.

First Born could serve as a villain that hits more personally for Diana. Having a character that is essentially her "brother" that she never knew about could force her to question her own mother and what other secrets the Amazons and Gods have kept hidden from her. It doesn't hurt that First Born could match Diana in both brawn and brains.

Circe

Yet another long-running villain is the sorceress Circe, inspired by the witch of the same name from Homer's "Odyssey." Since she first appeared in the early comics, Circe's goal has been the downfall of Wonder Woman out of fear that she will result in her own fall. Much like First Born, Circe is a villain that would allow the filmmakers to have more fun with the mythological aspects of Wonder Woman.

She could also be a good villain for the greater DC Extended Universe because of her manipulation. At one point in the comics, she manipulated the gods into a war with each other that threatened to destroy the universe. This forced the many heroes of the DC universe to step up and stop the war before it consumed all of existence. This shows the versatility in a character like Circe.

Queen Clea

The last one is yet another that plays with mythology, and that is Queen Clea. In the comics, Queen Clea is the dictator of a lost Atlantean city who has been around since the early Wonder Woman comics. She has many powers that rival Aquaman, such as breathing underwater and enhanced strength on the surface, making her a physical match for Diana.

Clea would be a fun addition because it could open the door for some non-Justice League related crossovers in the movies. While she has historically been a Wonder Woman villain, ruling a lost Atlantean city could force her into conflict with Arthur Curry (Aquaman) as well. That could force the Atlantean king to turn to his fellow league member for help in stopping the dictator.

There are plenty of other villains that could make great adversaries in future films, but these four are among the standouts. Whether it's for their personal connection to Wonder Woman or greater story opportunities some may create, these might be the best ones to go with for a sequel.
