Beyond Good & Evil 2, which was first announced back in 2008, is finally happening, as Ubisoft unveiled a cinematic trailer for the long-delayed title at E3 2017.

After such a long wait, fans of the original Beyond Good & Evil thought that the sequel has been lost in time. However, that is not the case, with Beyond Good & Evil 2 confirmed to be on its way.

Beyond Good & Evil 2: The Prequel To The 2003 Classic

Beyond Good & Evil 2, despite the number in its title, is actually a prequel to the first Beyond Good & Evil, which was released in 2003 for the PC, PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube.

According to a Ubisoft blog post, Beyond Good & Evil 2 will again have Michel Ancel leading the second game in the franchise. The title will follow players as they explore System 3, which is a vast solar system that is also "a hub of interstellar colonization and commerce in the 24th century."

Players will have a significant role in shaping System 3, as private enterprises wage war against one another over its limited resources. Space piracy runs rampant in System 3, with new generations of captains looking to make their name in the galaxy.

Ubisoft said that players will rise through the ranks, from a lowly pirate all the way to a legendary captain. Players will be exploring moons and planets at light speed with their friends, with System 3 presented as a massive and seamless online environment.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 Cinematic Trailer

The cinematic trailer released by Ubisoft for Beyond Good & Evil 2, while not revealing any gameplay details about the game, provides a good glimpse of the direction for the title.

The trailer, which contains several references to the original Beyond Good & Evil, featured a talking monkey who tricks a trader into a bad deal. The trader goes by the name Pey'j and closely resembles the talking pig from the first game.

The monkey, which has a robotic hand that extends to act as a grappling hook, escapes with a heroine as police vehicles chase them. The duo is able to return to a base of rebels, handing over a disc to a green-eyed woman.

Ancel confirmed that Beyond Good & Evil 2 happens before the birth of Jade, the hero in the first game. This means that the green-eyed woman could not be her, but perhaps her mother.

Hype For 'Beyond Good & Evil 2'

No platforms and release date have so far been announced for Beyond Good & Evil 2, but fans are already hyped up about the title.

"We know the expectations for Beyond Good & Evil 2 are enormous," Ancel said in the blog post, adding that the development team is creating the game as a "sci-fi space opera" that remains true to the spirit of the original game.

To help meet player expectations, the team behind Beyond Good & Evil 2 at Ubisoft Montpellier launched the Space Monkey Program. The program looks to acquire feedback and ideas from Beyond Good & Evil fans throughout the development of Beyond Good & Evil 2.
