Famed design consulting firm Pantone has announced its Color of the Year for 2015. Any ideas about what it is?

If you were somehow thinking Marsala, then you'd be right. Pantone predicts that this reddish-brown hue, which is officially called 18-1438 Marsala, in case you were wondering, will be everywhere in the coming year, from lipstick to furniture to fashion.

"Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal," said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, in a statement. "This hearty-yet-stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors."

I don't know about you, but I'm starving after reading that. And thirsty. Anyone else have a sudden craving for Italian tonight?

In addition to liking my chicken drenched in marsala sauce, I think Marsala is actually a rather lovely color. I welcome it with open arms to brainwash me into leading all of my aesthetic choices for the next year. In all seriousness, it's certainly a very earthy color that seems perfect as we end Fall and head into Winter. However, by the time Spring rolls around, I feel like we're all going to be clamoring for something a bit lighter, in terms of both hue and appetite. Limoncello, perhaps?

Pantone spends years researching what colors will be most exciting to consumers to come up with its Color of the Year selections annually. Essentially, the idea is to choose a color that consumers will want to spend money on. Researchers look for color trends around the world, in pop culture and in major global events like the World Cup.

Pantone's Color of the Year for 2014 was the vibrant Radiant Orchid that really just made me want to do back flips or some other activity rather than just take a nap as Marsala does. Is this emotional change a reflection on our society's changing attitudes from year to year? I have no idea, but if so, that would be deep.
