Connected home gadgets are on the rise and Blink is getting ahead of the CES 2018 rush by announcing a new video doorbell just days before Christmas.

The new Blink video doorbell is battery-powered and joins the company's lineup of home security devices and smart cameras. Video doorbells, however, don't come cheap, and although Blink's new offer costs less than other video doorbells, it still requires a notable investment.

Blink Video Doorbell Price

The new Blink video doorbell starts at $99.99, but this price only applies to those who already have a Blink Sync Module. Otherwise, the video doorbell with the necessary Blink Sync Module hub costs $129.99. It's not exactly cheap, but it's still more affordable than comparable gadgets from Nest and Ring, which are around the $200 mark or more. A Ring Elite even goes up to $499.

The company will also be offering a Blink Doorbell Chime add-on, which will be available separately from the video doorbell, but has yet to announce pricing details. Blink will likely offer more information about this at CES 2018, which takes place in January.

Blink Video Doorbell Specs And Features

The Blink video doorbell is battery-powered, using AA batteries, and it automatically connects to the Blink Sync Module hub. When people approach the front door, the Blink video doorbell will capture HD footage so that the homeowner sees who's at the door without actually going to check. The gadget also features two-way audio, enabling homeowners to talk to people before letting them in.

The video doorbell further boasts infrared night vision and a built-in motion detector, promising to film whoever's at the door regardless of whether it's day or night. Since it's designed for the outside, the video doorbell also sports IP65 certification for water resistance, so that it doesn't get damaged if it rains.

The Blink video doorbell will also upload captured footage to the cloud, and the company says that cloud storage will be available for free, with no fees or monthly contracts.

"While other companies try to wow early-adopters with tech and unnecessary features, at Blink we are disrupting the smart home industry through a zealous focus on simple products that provide huge value at an unmatchable price," says Blink CEO Peter Besen.

Besen further touts Blink's award-winning experience in the home security field, which came in handy in designing this video doorbell. Consequently, Blink says that its new doorbell is "the absolute easiest to install, full-featured video doorbell" currently available on the market.

Blink has yet to announce a launch date and the video doorbell is not available for preorder yet. With CES 2018 just around the corner, more details should become available soon enough.
