Based on several reports related to CES 2018, it looks like manufacturers are prepared to showcase multimedia-related devices as LG teases a 4K HDR projector.

The upcoming product carries the model number HU80KA and will be the company's first model to include the aforementioned features. Its other gimmicks suggest that it is primarily intended for home entertainment.

Furthermore, unlike other 4K-ready projectors, which are normally massive and clunky to be considered as portable, The HU80KA boasts a smaller frame described to be half the size of its direct competitors.

Specifications And Features

LG's new product is designed to project up to a 150-inch screen rated at 2,500 lumens, which currently makes it the brightest model the company has produced. Supporting HDR10, it will be processing the video's metadata and dynamically adapting the contrast and color during playback. Audio playback is also supported via two 7W speakers with output ports for external speakers or a soundbar.

"LG's first-ever 4K UHD projector represents the pinnacle of innovation in the portable entertainment market," stated by Tim Alessi, LG Electronics USA's head of product marketing.

"Offering superb brightness coupled with a design that offers true versatility, the new HU80KA will lead the way in changing how consumers enjoy 4K content in their home and on the go," he added.

Smart Projector

Unlike other models from different brands, the new LG HU80KA is not a run-of-the-mill 4K HDR output device when it comes to function. Ideally, projectors are expected to just throw video or images onto a surface depending on the connected source, perhaps a USB flash drive, a laptop, a video game console, and maybe an entertainment system like a Blu-ray player or others.

On the other hand, the South Korean manufacturer created their product with WebOS 3.5, Bluetooth, and Ethernet connectivity. Consumers will be able to stream Hulu, Netflix, and more via the pre-installed Smart TV platform.

It can be positioned upright on the floor or installed from the ceiling. Portability-wise, its built-in carrying handle makes it convenient to position or move around, while an Auto Cord feature can quickly wind up the power cable for storage.

Pricing And Availability

The 4K HDR projector will be on hand at the LG booth during at CES 2018. Attendees can reportedly experience a demo of its capabilities and inspect the quality of its features. The manufacturer has yet to disclose the suggested retail price and availability of the HU80KA but claims that it will be "affordable."

To compare, their definition of affordable might require some careful thought, since most entry-level and mid-range 4K-ready projectors are priced somewhere close to $2,000.
