The next LG flagship smartphone, codenamed Judy, will be launched in June, and it will not be named the LG G7 as many would have expected.

The name of the upcoming device has not yet been revealed, but according to rumors, Judy will be a high-end smartphone with top-of-the-line specifications and features.

The Death Of The LG G7

The LG G7 was rumored to have a launch date in January, alongside the Galaxy S9, in a bid to stem the surge in popularity of Apple's iPhone X. However, last month, reports revealed that there will be a delayed release for LG's next flagship smartphone, after LG Electronics CEO Jo Seong-jin ordered his employees to "start over" with the device.

The unveiling of the next LG flagship smartphone is now expected to be sometime in April, with a company representative even hinting that the LG G6 successor will not be named the LG G7.

What Do We Know About LG Judy?

According to prolific leaker Evan Blass through VentureBeat, the upcoming smartphone will apparently not be named the LG G7, and that LG is looking to launch the smartphone in June.

A person familiar with the plans for LG's Judy told Blass that the smartphone will be a brand new design. This would give the expected name change more sense, as previous LG flagship smartphones mostly only added hardware upgrades and new features to their predecessors.

The LG Judy will have a 6.1-inch display that is much larger than the 5.7-inch display of the G G6, and the screen will be a new kind named the MLCD+ panel. The LG Judy's screen will allegedly be able to display high, 800-nit brightness but with 35 percent lower power consumption compared to today's standard LCD screens.

The other specifications and features for LG's Judy include Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB internal memory, 16 MP dual rear cameras, IP68 protection with durability that follows military standards, stereo speakers, high dynamic range photography, voice recognition, a built-in digital assistant, and wireless charging features. All of these point to a pretty powerful flagship smartphone, except for the low RAM, though a boost may be expected if LG proceeds to launch a "plus" model for Judy.

A June launch for an Android smartphone is unusual, but it may work for LG as the LG Judy will be drawing all attention at the time. This would allow the device to have its share of the spotlight without having to compete with brands such as Samsung.
