Finally, after several months of speculation after the launch of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Activision confirmed that a Spyro the Dragon remake will be coming this year.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy will launch in September, but unlike the original games of the series, it will not be a PlayStation 4 exclusive.

'Spyro The Dragon' Remake To Launch Sept. 21

Activision recently sent out scaly purple eggs as a weird promotion. It turned out to be a teaser for what everyone was expecting, namely a Spyro the Dragon remake.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy, which will launch on Sept. 21, was first teased in Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, a fellow remake of a PlayStation mascot during the time of the original console. A report earlier this year from Kotaku claimed that the Spyro the Dragon remake will launch in the third quarter, likely in September as that would be the 20th anniversary of the franchise.

While there are discrepancies in the Kotaku report with the official announcement, fans of the purple dragon are just happy to know that Spyro Reignited Trilogy is on its way.

What's New In 'Spyro Reignited Trilogy'?

Similar to Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, the most drastic change that will come to Spyro Reignited Trilogy are the graphics. Toys for Bob, the developer of the remake trilogy and not Vicarious Visions as Kotaku previously reported, mapped the original levels, but gave them a complete overhaul. As can be seen in the release trailer, the levels are brimming with detail that was simply not possible with the original PlayStation.

In addition to the visual upgrade, Spyro Reignited Trilogy will shift the camera rotation controls from the shoulder buttons to the second analog stick. The soundtrack will also be reimagined, alongside revamped cinematics and retooled animations.

Another major change to Spyro Reignited Trilogy compared to the original games is that the remake will be released on both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on launch. There is currently no mention of Spyro Reignited Trilogy for Nintendo Switch, but given that Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will also be arriving to the hybrid console in July, there is a good chance that the Spyro the Dragon remake will make the same jump.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy will include the first three games in the franchise, namely Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! and Spyro: Year of the Dragon. Preorders for the Spyro the Dragon remake are now open for $39.99.
