In simpler words, the number of devices that we use for online media, education, entertainment, and work, have significantly risen. Earlier, we had only two devices: A computer and a mobile phone. However, nowadays, we have many more such devices in our backpacks for different locations and different atmospheres such as laptops, tablets, and reading devices.

How You Can Avoid Health Threats From Screen Time

Though these devices have been really convenient and useful for different purposes, they may also bring along several health issues. The extended screen time can result in a number of serious diseases from depression, problems in eyesight, anxiety, heart illness, lack of appetite, and many more. Therefore, it is rather important for you to follow methods that can keep such health risks at bay. There is a lot more that we can do than just staying away from the screen for a while. It is important to take necessary steps for your wellbeing, so let's run through some of these ways we can protect our health:

  • Find Good Alternatives

Finding alternatives to your electronic gadgets is one of the best ways to improve your health. For example, if you read a lot online, you may go with books or if you play chess on your computer or smartphone, you should buy a chessboard. Not only will it be good for your health, but it will also be tremendously helpful in enhancing your productivity. One suggestion: Keep a notepad and a pen - and when you are studying or making simple notes, try to make use of it. It will give you a good break from the screen.

  • You Have To Be Active During Screen Time

You may not be aware but it helps a lot to be active while you are in front of your screen. The screens that you delightfully stick your eyes to produce blue light and you know that blue light may be bad for your eyes in a number of ways. If you keep stretching after certain intervals, practice yoga, walk a little, or jump a bit during your work or study, it can help your eyes and head feel better. With that, you can avoid headaches or eye strains that come naturally after a long screen time.

  • Avoid Gadget Addiction

There are several kinds of addictions that are proportionally related to screentime. If you are addicted to gaming, bingeing, or social media, you are running under a serious health threat. Not only that, people who study or work a lot over the internet must also be careful. A good way to avoid this type of addiction is to develop a hobby that takes you away from electronic gadgets. Go play a sport with your friend, make time for exercise, step out for a natural stroll, start painting or drawing, or any activities you find interesting that will keep you moving. Such activities will keep you engaged and also serve you well in terms of mental and physical health.

  • Be Careful What You Watch

People may pick up unhealthy habits by watching advertisements or movies that directly or indirectly promote a bad thing. For example, children may feel desirous to smoke after watching a certain kind of movie. Or, a tempting junk food advertisement may strike you off your healthy diet routine. While you are watching such content on television, smartphone, or anywhere else, make sure to use your ability to discern between what is right and what is not. A lot of things on television and social media are fake and against a human's best interests - and you must be able to spot that.

  • Spend Time With Your Family & Friends

This method is recommended by those who have beaten screen addiction. You must have come across one such day where you spent time with your lovely friends and did not feel the need to check your phone messages at all. As a matter of truth, this is so. The company of people you love and enjoy can help you avoid being on a screen significantly. What is more, this practice is healthy, happy, and good for you to learn important social skills.

Electronic gadgets such as phones, laptops, and tablets are no doubt important. However, what comes along with them is the responsibility to use them in the right manner. The right way to use them is to control the use - and not let it go beyond the 'healthy' level.
