What's the secret to a long-lasting marriage? Self-proclaimed Mad Cat Lady from London may have it figured out. The Lanzarote-based web designer has been happily married for the past eleven years - to her two cats.

That's right, 48-year old Barbarella Buchner married her two adopted gray tabbies, Spider and Lugosi, in a low-key ceremony back in 2004. The three have since lived in marital bliss and have even added other adopted kitties to their family.

It started when Buchner adopted the two boys. She said it was love at first sight when she saw them at a London animal shelter in 2000. But it wasn't until she and her human male partner of seven years broke it off that Buchner decided to swear off men forever.

She then ordered a marriage certificate for herself and her two cats online - a document which, of course, is not officially recognized anywhere.

Buchner is also fully aware that her marriage to her moggies isn't actually a legally binding contract.

"First of all, the marriage to my cats is for fun only and not legal or recognized in any country in the world. And secondly, something which is rather obvious, they are cats, and hence, for example, they won't engage me in philosophical conversations, or help me with the shopping, clean their own toilet or go to work," she said.

Still, she said that her cats are the loves of her life and even though theirs is not a typical matrimonial union, it certainly has, so far, more lasting power than more traditional marriages.

And just in case your wondering if the marriage has been consummated, Buchner answers that with a resounding, no!

"We all know that there are people out there in this world who have sex with animals, but seriously, I'm not one of them and even the thought of that makes me ill... I am totally and utterly in love with my cats, but it is simply a pure, spiritual, unconditional love..." she said.
