A 29-year-old mother from Schiller Park in Chicago allegedly tried to kill her two young children with drug-laced apple juice before trying to commit suicide.

Krystle El Khatib is accused of putting benzodiazepine and Norco in her childrens' drinks before taking them herself. All were rushed to the hospital.

El Khatib is currently being held on attempted murder charges with a bond set at $1.5 million.

According to reports, El Khatib attempted to kill her children because she was angry at her husband for not spending enough time with her.

"At least if I go to hell, I've already been there. The kids go to heaven. Peace from all," she reportedly threatened her husband.

She then began to crush her anti-anxiety medication and pain relievers in a plastic bag, which was witnessed by her son. She put the crushed pills into two cups of apple juice for her children, a nine-year-old boy and four-year-old girl, to drink. When the son initially refused to drink because he saw the powdered pills at the bottom of his cup, El Khatib allegedly threatened to hit him.

The childrens' father was alerted to the situation when the son called him to say they were trying to wake up their mother but she was not responding. The boy said that he was also feeling sick and vomiting. The father rushed them to the hospital and learned of the drug-laced juice they ingested.

Thankfully, the children recovered fully in the hospital even though they both tested positive for anti-depressant drugs in their systems. They are currently resting at home in the custody of their father.

El Khatib has no criminal history but obvious mental health issues. She told authorities who questioned her that she "wanted all three of them to go to sleep and not wake up."
