According to DotESports, much of the reviews for FromSoftware's newest "Soulsborne" title have come back almost perfect. Most reviewers are even already considering "Elden Ring" to be the best FromSoftware game to date, and it looks like no other game released for the current generation comes even close.

On OpenCritic, over 90 "Elden Ring" reviews have resulted in an average score of 96 percent, with most of the critics recommending it as a must-play. It seems to be that the game's "refined, accessible, and satisfying combat" paired with its open-world (a first for the "Soulsborne" series) is what endeared it to reviewers early on.

The story is not that different on Metacritic as well, where the game has earned an average of 97 percent positive ratings. This made the game the 18th-highest-rated title in Metacritic history, behind a lot of other heavyweights. It is only dwarfed by a lot of era and genre-defining titles like "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time," the original "Soul Calibur," and "GTA IV," to name a few.

Early reviews from other major game publications are also praising FromSoftware's new open-world romp almost endlessly. For one, IGN gave "Elden Ring" a perfect 10/10, calling it a masterpiece for bringing the "Soulsborne" series' iconically difficult combat to an "incredible open world" which lets players choose their own paths.

Another review, this time by PC Gamer, gave the gamer a 90/100, but isn't all praises like IGN was. While they did commend it for the good things it does, they said that it was "a little too familiar" mainly due to its first time trying an open-world formula.

It looks like FromSoftware pressed almost all of the correct buttons with their cross-gen AAA offering, as evidenced by the reviews. One can likely chalk this up to the "Elden Ring" writers headlined by "Souls" creator Hidetaka Miyazaki and "Game Of Thrones" author George R.R. Martin, who was announced to be the creator of the game's "original mythos," as reported by USAToday.

That's for console players. PC players are in for a bit more confusing time with regards to release times, though.
