With the ongoing invasion of Ukraine, citizens are being given rules regarding how to use their cell phones. These rules aim to help protect Ukrainians by making sure valuable information does not fall into the wrong hands.

Ukrainians Given Nine Rules to Follow to Help Promote Safety

According to the story by SlashGear, Ukrainians were given nine rules to follow, with each of these rules centered on cell phone usage when near the frontlines. These rules include soldiers being advised to leave their SIM cards at home.

Soldiers are also urged to use a different SIM card whenever they are inside a conflict zone. One disclaimer is that users should not be accepting any SIM cards coming from locals since this still entails risks of being used by the attackers to spy on them.

Ukrainians Urged to be More Careful When Using Cell Phones

Ukrainians were also urged to be more careful since enemies could be listening despite whatever operator or SIM card the citizens were using. Citizens were also urged to keep the conversations short and direct to the point.

Sky News gave a list of the official rules Ukrainians are using when it comes to using cell phones. The nine guidelines are centered around protecting potentially vulnerable data that could be used by attackers.

Nine Rules for Ukrainians:

1. SIM cards should be left at home.

2. The zone of the conflict itself remains the best place citizens could get a SIM card.

3. Should citizens want to make a phone call, they should first walk at least 400 to 500 meters away from their official squad positions.

4. Ukrainians are urged to take an armed friend with them in order to cover them whenever making calls.

5. Ukrainians are urged to take calls when they are in places where there are a lot of civilians around. These were noted as preferably "recently liberated towns."

6. Ukrainians are also being told to leave their phone off as a way to save their lives. This is due to Grad missiles potentially hitting the whole squad if they are left on.

7. Ukrainians are told not to accept any cards or refill codes from locals, saying that people within a neighboring village could actually be working with the enemy. The warning notes that both the FSB and SBU have been able to acquire a large amount of data in order to identify Ukrainian users.

8. Citizens are also told to watch over their comrades, saying that whenever a friend is calling someone, after an hour or so, the position could potentially get "shelled or attacked."

9. The last rule given to citizens was to make their calls as if they knew the enemy was listening, meaning keeping the conversation light and avoiding revealing any important information over the phone.
