After T-Mobile announced that it would increase its minimum wage, Verizon decided to do the same. Just recently, Verizon announced that the minimum wage the company will be paying its employees would be raised to $20 an hour.

Verizon Decides to Increase Its Minimum Wage to $20 an Hour

According to the story by PCMag, Verizon stated that the wage increase would affect different employees in their Customer Service, Inside Sales, and Retail sectors. This will affect those workers that are still earning less than $20 an hour.

The wage increase, however, won't be limited to just those earning less than $20 an hour but also a few Verizon workers that are already earning more than this.

Company Decides to Add Premium Pay Differentials for Assistant Managers

Instead of paying more for certain positions, Verizon will be adding premium pay differentials for assistant managers that decide to work on Sundays and holidays. The premium pay differentials will also be given to bilingual assistant managers.

Other big news from Verizon includes a sign-on bonus for certain markets regarding retail specialist and assistant manager positions. The bonus comes as part of the company's initiative to attract potential workers to the positions.

Verizon Says Minimum Wage Increase was a Result of Employee Feedback

As per Krista Bourne, the COO of the Verizon Consumer Group, their V Teamers do their best to support their customers day in and day out. Due to the teams giving support to consumers, the company wants to support them as well.

In a statement by Verizon, however, the cause of the minimum wage increase and the company's decision to offer premium pay differentials was the employee feedback. Bourne stated that she is confident that the new changes will assist the company when it comes to attracting and retaining Verizon's best talent.

Bourne also believes that the new increase and sign-on bonuses are going to help the company improve its customer experience as well. The website notes that the company's bonuses will be aligned with its goals of being able to "promoting great customer experiences."

T-Mobile Initially Started the Pay Increase in December of 2021

PCMag noted that T-Mobile initially started the trend back in December of 2021, noting that the company would pay their employees at least $20 an hour no matter what role they are working or their contract statuses.

The rival of both Verizon and T-Mobile, AT&T, has not yet decided to implement a wage increase. According to an article by Fortune, however, the company could be thinking of making the same move.

As pointed out by PCMag, the official federal minimum wage has not increased since 2009, sitting at just $7.25. Other states, however, have different laws when it comes to their own base pay.
