Hidetaka Miyazaki, president of FromSoftware and director of Elden Ring, recently sat down with Japanese media outlet 4Gamer to discuss the nature of the studio's future. Following on the heels of the massive success awarded Elden Ring, FromSoft is pushing headlong into its next forway in gaming.

In reference to a 2018 interview on Sekiro, which debuted in 2019, 4Gamer asks Miyazaki about the so-called 3.5 games being in development at that time. With the .5 being the PS4 VR title Deracine, one being the incredibly anticipated Elden Ring, and yet another being Sekiro, a single title remains in secrecy behind the doors of FromSoft. Miyazaki told 4Gamer that this last unknown game is still under development, a process that "is also in the final stages."

Following the interview's publication on Friday, FromSoftware announced a new round of hiring via Twitter, which links back to a special recruitment page highlighting roles for individuals "with sufficient understanding of game concepts and the role characters and mechs have in a game." The wording specifically hints at the return of a classic FromSoft series last seen all the way back in 2013: Armored Core.

The recruitment constraints line up with previous rumors dating back to Jan. when Reseera user Red Liquorice came forward with information detailing a potential mech combat game. Following a consumer survey headed by FromSoft, Red Liquorice provided evidence in the form of photos showcasing somewhat obvious Armored Core gameplay.

Despite languishing in the backdrop of FromSoft successors like Dark Souls and Bloodborne, Armored Core remained largely one of the studio's greatest feats and allowed it an immense success since its debut in 1997. Fans of the Armored Core franchise have long pleaded for its return, which may well finally be answered. Red Liquorice later described the potential Armored Core game as a "three-dimensional, dynamic action" game with a "sci-fi world created by Hidetaka Miyazaki" and a "high degree of freedom in customization."

Miyazaki likewise explained that this potential Armored Core sequel isn't the only game in the works at the studio. According to him, "there are several titles directed by people other than me" under FromSoft. In his long tenure at the studio, Miyazaki has directed nearly every Souls-like game, except Dark Souls 2. Ignoring the somewhat distasteful evaluations made of that game upon its debut, and emphasis on varied directorial takes in games is certainly a must and, as seen with Elden Ring, larger and more thought-provoking titles by the firm is sure to excite the masses.

Released in Feb., Elden Ring was immediately hailed as an utter triumph in the industry. The open-world nature allowed the studio to test its own capabilities truly. With a potential Armored Core on the near horizon and several unknown FromSoftware games likewise in the pipeline, fans of the studio are yet again steeped in a world of wait.
