Ever since the first Batman movie, many fans have been hoping to see the Caped Crusader fight in films the same way he fights in the comics. However, that never materialized, but things are about to change with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Fight coordinator Guillermo Grispo, who worked with Zack Snyder on films such as Sucker Punch, 300, Man of Steel, and now Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, has promised fans that they will get to see a true comic book Batman. This means that our favorite crime fighter will not be restricted to realism and the old technology of the 80s and 90s.
Expect Ben Affleck's Batman to use all his martial arts and other hand-to-hand combat skills. He will put them to the test and won't have to hold back since he's going up against the Man of Steel.
"Just imagine, it was like making dulce de leche. Now Batman [is] going to fight the way I've always dreamed seeing him fight ... he's a character so prepared in martial arts that you can do a lot of things with him, but filmmakers usually don't go all the way with it," said Grispo. "Even in the last Nolan movies the action scenes aren't very good from a technical, martial arts point of view to things like choreography, filming, bad camera movements."
We have to agree with Grispo on the matter of the Nolan Batman films. They were great films -- all three of them -- but Nolan did not give fans a comic book Batman. He chose to restrict the character in a realistic world, which removed any chance of the character doing some spectacular things.
However, despite the lackluster fighting scenes, the Nolan Batman films were great in the area of storytelling and were directed with top class. We've seen Zack Snyder's take on Watchmen, and it was great. We've also seen his take on Man of Steel, and it wasn't that impressive. It means that despite the promise of a comic book Batman, we can't go out on a limb and say: "In Zack Snyder, We Trust."
Fans want a comic book-styled Batman, but they also want great storytelling and a film that is directed well. We can only hope that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, is filled with these requirements to the very brim.
