Oxylabs, one of the largest global proxy solutions providers, announced the acquisition of Webshare Software Company - a Silicon Valley based self-service proxy firm.

Oxylabs bets on further Webshare growth

Oxylabs is one of the oldest and biggest players in the web scraping, proxy solutions and external data gathering industry. The company boasts partnerships with the world's largest enterprises, including Fortune 500 corporations.

Webshare, established by Utku Zihnioglu in 2019 and based in the San Francisco Bay area, is a robustly growing self-service proxy company. Since then, Webshare has attracted over 10 000 active customers.

"Webshare is playing an essential role in the proxy market ecosystem by providing fast and affordable solutions, the quality of which is praised by their clients. Achieving rapid industry recognition is an impressive accomplishment made possible only by the immensely talented people of Webshare. With the addition of our technical expertise and industry experience, we will help them get established as one of the key players in the industry while maintaining their explosive growth." - Julius Černiauskas, CEO of Oxylabs, is quoted in the company's press release.

New stage for both companies

Contrary to Webshare, which is based on self-service and focuses on affordability, Oxylabs is mainly known for its personalized approach to its clients. With its heftier price tag, it is focused on large multinational companies and enterprises. It is likely that the acquisition indicates Oxylabs' strategy to enter new market segments.

Utku Zihnioglu, CEO of Webshare Software Company, commented:

"Our goal has always been to become a technology leader in the proxy industry. We see Oxylabs as a brotherly company whose values match those upon which we built our business. Through our combined forces, we will be able to continue scaling quicker and more efficiently, enabling us to have a greater positive effect on the proxy market industry."

The acquisition deal was financed through Oxylabs cash reserves. Under the deal, Webshare Software will continue to operate as an independent entity with Oxylabs providing support to foster their further market influence.

Oxylabs plans to accelerate hirings to Webshare, helping them to attract top talent from the global proxy service industry.

Web scraping and proxy industry still growing

Residential or data center proxy services are used by businesses in need to collect large amounts of publicly available web data. The most popular use cases include competitor research, price monitoring, SEO keyword research, cybersecurity and others. Ecommerce and finance industries are among those most dependent on proxy services.

The industry witnessed a massive boom during the years of the global pandemic, as businesses were hastily moving to the digital space. The largest proxy providers are Oxylabs, Bright Data, Smartproxy, Zyte.
