Alibaba has just made a laptop called the Alibaba Roma RISC-V laptop that gets its processor based on the RISC-V ISA, which is open-sourced. This is interesting because the RISC-V processors are more popular in industrial applications.

Alibaba Roma RISC-V Laptop Uses a Processor Popular for Industrial Applications

Using the commercial parts for industrial purposes is common, but it is rare to hear industrial parts making their way to commercial. This seems to be the case with the Alibaba Roma RISC-V laptop.

The initial announcement of the Alibaba Roma RISC-V laptop happened in the summer of this year, and now, the peculiar gadget has finally been launched to the public. While it's hard to imagine what to expect from the Alibaba laptop, some of its specs are decent.

Roma is Based on the Wujian 600 Computing Platform as a Budget Alternative to Popular Tech

Notable specs for the Alibaba Roma RISC-V laptop, as per the story by Interesting Engineering, include its quad-core processor and other full features that the publication says they are used to seeing in a standard computer that uses either the Intel or AMD CPU.

The Roma is reportedly based on a particular computing platform that uses Wujian 600. The Wujian 600, as per Alibaba, is designed for cost-effective as well as consumer-facing edge computing and can be considered a budget alternative to more popular tech.

Alibaba Roma RISC-V Specs Including CPU to GPU Inclusions

Edge computing can be linked to running AI applications for machine learning, including high-volume data collection or other functions. Since it bears the RISC-V, which is geared more towards industrial purposes, this might not be shocking.

The unit's CPU is a 2.5GHz processor called the Alibaba T-Head TH1520 quad-core Xuantie. C910 processor. To add to its specs, it also packs a 4Tops Neural Processing Unit, otherwise known as the NPU, and an Imagination Technologies Graphics Processing Unit equipping the unit with everything from CPU to GPU.
