Gogoro's electric scooter and motorcycle battery-switching system is set to debut in India next month in collaboration with local electric vehicle (EV) delivery provider Zypp Electric. This will start to roll out in Delhi.

Gogoro and Zypp Electric as Business Partners

On Thursday, Nov. 3, Gogoro announced its strategic partnership with Zypp Electric as the most successful EV rental platform in India. These two firms are collaborating to expedite the transition to electric logistics fleets and last-mile deliveries in metropolitan areas by means of battery swapping.

India stands to gain the most from the remarkable worldwide shift toward cleaner, safer, and more efficient electric power in urban transportation and energy systems.

"With more than 350 million battery swaps to date, Gogoro is introducing its advanced [battery-swapping] platform in India to establish a new generation of electric two-wheel transportation that is proven, safe, and reliable," Gogoro CEO Horace Luke stated in a press release posted on Thursday.

According to Electrek, Gogoro and Zypp are planning to use Gogoro's battery-switching system as an efficient tool to keep EVs on the road rather than parked at charging stations. This is in observance of the fact that the electric scooter and motorbike sector in India continues to see significant growth.

The Benefits of a 'Swap & Go' System

This approach uses a network of battery-swapping stations known as GoStations, which can continuously charge and deploy batteries.

The riders need just roll up to a station, place their almost depleted batteries into a receptacle, and then get new batteries that have been fully charged in exchange. The procedure takes a few seconds and is far faster than the usual stop they make for refilling gas on a motorbike or scooter powered by an internal combustion engine (ICE).

Acknowledging the Importance of Two-wheeled Vehicles

Electrek reported that India has around 200 million motorbikes and scooters, making it a viable market for Gogoro's development.

Battery swaps are the ideal answer for last-mile delivery situations in which the vehicles are often required to remain on the road throughout the day without the opportunity to pull over and charge their batteries.

Asian countries place significant importance on two-wheeled vehicle types that are both quick and efficient. These scooters and motorcycles can navigate through traffic jams and travel on roads that are difficult to access for larger, four-wheeled vehicles.

Gogoro's Global Expansion

Gogoro's early market launch and years of real-world verification have made it a battery-switching standard.

Two months ago, the company announced that it is expanding its operations in Israel and Singapore.

Now, Israelis may buy electric scooters from the firm and join its premium battery-swapping program. Moreover, Gogoro launched a new initiative to replace batteries in EVs in Singapore.

The collaboration between Gogoro, Metro Motor, and Paz Group has enabled growth in both Singapore and Israel.
