Riot Games announces a new self-published server for League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics among Southeast Asian players.

On Wednesday, Riot Games revealed that they will be taking over the publishing of League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics in Southeast Asia (SEA), which has been handled by Garena ever since the launch of its servers.

Originally, Garena was in charge of publishing the two games for the SEA region. However, due to their contract ending in January 2023, Riot Games will be ending its partnership with Garena 12 years after the SEA gaming community has grown and expanded.

Riot Games' self-published server will be catered to players from the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau, and Thailand. Additionally, Riot has designated Taiwan Mobile as the new publisher for League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics in Taiwan. Meanwhile, VNGGames will be assigned as the Teamfight Tactics publisher for Vietnam.

What Does This Mean For SEA League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics Players?

Riot Games' ending partnership with Garena means that players will have to migrate their Garena account to the self-published server, which will be available in 2023.

Players will be asked to migrate their Garena accounts to Riot starting November 18 to ensure a smooth transition to the SEA server next year, according to Yahoo. As of now, no instructions have been revealed on how to do so, but a guide will be published on Riot's official site once the new server is available.

Riot also assures that players will be able to keep all resources from their Garena account during the transition, including their Cosmetic Content, loot inventory, Riot points, Champion Mastery, Summoner name, Friends list, and more.

As a celebration of the Riot migration, League of Legends SEA players will soon get the chance to own all champions by completing a set of missions. Additionally, Riot will reward players with an additional loot bonus equivalent to the value of their cosmetic content after the account transfer, according to One Esports.

Riot Games Establishing Regional Hubs in South East Asia

Following the announcement of its new SEA server, Riot Games will soon have an addition to its self-published products, including VALORANTLeague of Legends: Wild Rift, and Legends of Runeterra.

Riot Games Managing Director for Asia-Pacific (APAC) Alex Kraynov revealed that the move is influenced by the company's plan to establish its regional hubs in countries such as the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia to enhance its hyper-localization, community support, and to improve the overall gaming experience for SEA players.

"As we further our focus on being the most player-focused game company in the world, we are excited to bring our players immersive and meaningful experiences, both in and out of the game. We are looking forward to seeing our players benefit from a unified Riot ecosystem and look forward to writing the next chapter with them," Kraynov explained.
