It is obvious that many Internet users are not interested in security. You'd think that, at this point, people would be more discerning with their passwords, but this is not the case. According to a new research conducted by SplashData, "password" isn't the dumbest password used by Internet users anymore. It has been replaced by "123456" for the past year.

However, "password" only fell by one point to the number 2 position on the list. It switched places with "123456," which was in second place back in 2012. What this shows is that nothing much have changed in thought process of many users on the Internet. This also proves why hackers are able to compromise some user accounts so easily.

The list of the top 25 weakest passwords includes various combinations such as "iloveyou", "qwerty", "123456s8", and "abc123". Passwords such as "photoshop" and "adobe123" might be proof enough that many Internet users use passwords relevant to the product they are using, or service they are logged into.

"Seeing passwords like 'adobe123' and 'photoshop' on this list offers a good reminder not to base your password on the name of the website or application you are accessing," said SplashData CEO Morgan Slain. "Another interesting aspect of this year's list is that more short numerical passwords showed up even though websites are starting to enforce stronger password policies."

If you're a person guilty of using such passwords, you should change it immediately. If you have issues remembering your password, we recommend using a password manager. One notable password manager is LastPass; it will store all your passwords so you can have access to them across multiple devices, browsers, and operating systems.

Choosing to continue using these weak passwords would make it easier for hackers to compromise your account and steal your personal information, so please take it seriously.
