The speakers, also referred to as Thin Actuator Sound Solution, is designed to be "invisible." It was developed with an undisclosed global audio company to replace traditional speakers in vehicles.

What's New With These Tiny Speakers?

The tiny speakers have no usual voice coils, magnets, and cones. Instead, it comes with a film-like exciter technology that can vibrate off display panels and other materials inside the car body. As a result, it will deliver a 3D immersive sound experience.

The speakers measure 5.9 x 3.5 inches, and the thickness is approximately a tenth of an inch. It weighs 1.4 ounces, which is why it's possible to be "hidden" in several parts, such as the headliner, dashboard, headrests, and pillar. Therefore, it frees up spaces that speakers usually occupy. However, the size won't compromise the quality.

Not a New Concept

Don't be fooled. This concept isn't entirely new because there have been similar speakers used in OLED TVs from other brands. However, adding it to vehicles is new and comes with a lot of benefits.

For one, it minimizes the time it requires to install speakers in vehicles. It's also slimmer, making it possible to fit almost anywhere. So, seeing these tiny speakers in vehicles won't be awkward.

Making Waves With New Sound Technology

LG has been making waves in the TV industry for years since it started its OLED TV segment. It's also among the first companies to develop and start manufacturing flexible displays. It makes sense that it will be among the first to introduce this innovative new technology to the market. It's not just this sound solution that's making waves.

The Future of Car Speakers

However, this is the first time that a technology company is making waves in the car audio industry. It definitely shows that the future of car speakers is headed toward the invisible route.

To sum it up, LG's Thin Actuator Sound Solution is a great way to install speakers on gadgets. It's also cheaper than the usual speakers because you don't have to worry about the extra box. It's likely to spread to every part of our lives as technology progresses. Who knows, this may also be used in VR headsets and smart speakers in the future.

LG will show the technology at the CES 2023, and it will be available to the public in the first half of 2023.
