Bosch's New RideCare Dashcam Secret Panic Button

In this day and age, a security dashcam has been a go-to gadget for tons of drivers out there. It helps the user and other folks on the road during accidents to better determine who is at fault.

More so, it has become essential for rideshare drivers as the incidents of attacks from passengers are increasing these days. A couple of Lyft and Uber incidents caught on cam are spreading online, as per the latest report by Gizmodo.

But Bosch wants to level up its new RideCar security dashcam.

It takes footage of the inside and outside of the vehicle like most rideshare cameras. On top of that, it also helps drivers to contact the authorities during unsafe incidents.

A secret panic button beneath the dashcam allows drivers to reach out to law enforcement in real-time.

According to a recent story by Tech Crunch, when users press the emergency button, it prompts the dashcam to contact the call center of Bosch.

From there, the operators will then check the footage to confirm if the situation actually requires the help of the authorities.

The President of Cross-Domain Computing Solutions at Bosch, Christoph Hartung, explains how the SOS button works.

Hartung notes that "what takes the Bosch RideCare companion beyond a simple dashcam is that it is paired with a service that provides active help by trained call center specialists when required."

Given that the button goes through human intervention, it should help curb false alarms.

The tech giant plans to debut the security camera in early 2023. However, it is worth noting that Bosch has yet to release its pricing. It might not take long before its price details see the light of day.

Despite that, its spokesperson says that users would have to pay for a subscription model for the support service. It is on top of the price of the device.
