Despite its online controversies and issues, "Red Dead Redemption 2" remains one of the recent biggest single-player video game successes.

Microsoft Addresses Red Dead Redemption 2 Launch Issue on Windows 11 Systems

According to the story by Bleeping Computer, the critically praised western-themed open-world action-adventure title, a spiritual successor to "Red Dead Redemption" and the third main entry in the Red Dead series, has attracted millions of players on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms.

Recently, Microsoft had to address an issue where the game could no longer launch on some Windows 11 systems. The issue occurred after players installed the optional KB5023774 preview update on the operating system in March.

Deploying the Latest Windows 11 22H2 Release as an Alternative Solution

The affected customers could not open the game from the Rockstar Games Launcher, with the 'Play' button switching to 'Loading' without any results. Fortunately, Rockstar Games fixed the launcher bug in the latest version of its launcher, 1.0.71.1428.

However, Microsoft also suggested a workaround for customers with automatic updates toggled off or do not have access to the launcher patch. The alternative solution is for affected PC users to deploy the latest Windows 11 22H2 release.

Fix Released for 'Red Dead Redemption 2' Bug on Windows 11 Systems

Microsoft has announced a fix for an issue causing "Red Dead Redemption 2" (RRD2) to no longer launch on some Windows 11 systems. This bug was triggered by the KB5023774 March 2023 optional preview update and only affected gamers who launched RRD2 via the Rockstar Games Launcher.

The fix comes in the form of Rockstar Games Launcher version 1.0.71.1428, which was released earlier today. Microsoft also provides a workaround for customers who don't have automatic updates toggled on or cannot immediately install the launcher patch.

Updating to the Latest Version of Windows: Windows 11 22H2

It requires customers to update to Windows 11 22H2, the latest version of Windows, which is not impacted by this known issue. Microsoft said to open Windows Update settings and Check for updates, and if a device is ready, customers should select Download and Install.

"Red Dead Redemption 2" was released in December 2019 and has garnered over 350,000 'Very Positive' reviews on the popular video game digital distribution platform Steam. Rockstar Games also fixed a Grand Theft Auto Online bug that allowed attackers to alter other players' stats and have them kicked or banned from servers.
