Discovery's MythBusters and id Software's classic video game Doom are about to collide.

A special episode of the show that fans have been begging for will put Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman into the virtual shoes of video game characters to find out if the most common physics represented in video games are possible. First person shooters in particular will be the main focus, with the duo tackling questions related to things like picking up endless amounts of gear, armor, health packs, and weapons while running-and-gunning.

The highlight of the episode will be a real-life recreation of a level from Doom 3, which the MythBusters built with help from id Software's very own Tim Willits, who guest stars. The full scope of the episode, including what other games or gaming tropes might be covered, hasn't been revealed.

With id and its parent company Bethesda expected to take the wraps off Doom 4 in the next few months, it makes sense that they would team up with MythBusters, which is already popular within geek culture. Adam Savage in particular is known to be a pop culture junkie, so it should be a kick to see him running through creepy Doom levels, shooting "monsters" in the dark.

The video games special episode airs on Saturday, January 31 at 9:00 P.M. Eastern / 8:00 P.M. Pacific, on Discovery.
